Overview

La Tzoumaz is part of the largest skiing area in Switzerland: 4 Vallées, which links the Bruson stations to Thyon via Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Nendaz and Veysonnaz. With 410 km of pistes, the area brings together countless activities that are as thrilling as they are exciting. Skiers and snowboarders will be more than satisfied, with as much fun as they can handle on the slopes and freeride routes. Even beginners can get involved in the fun on slopes specially tailored for them.

But the resort is not just for skiers. There are also plenty of hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails to get out and enjoy nature, and the same goes for ski touring and heli-skiing. And if you want to spend time with friends or family, what better way than visiting one of the longest sledge runs in French-speaking Switzerland, right in the Savoleyres-La Tzoumaz area.

Wherever you are on the resort, make sure you take some time out to admire the sweeping panorama of the neighbouring mountains and the Valais Plain. Why not meet at the top of Mont-Fort, the highest peak in the area (3,300m above sea level) to enjoy the breath-taking views.

The Skiing

A true hidden gem of the Swiss Alps

La Tzoumaz, at an altitude of 1550m, is one of the true hidden gems of the Swiss Alps offering immediate access to the world famous Verbier’s ski area. La Tzoumaz is a peaceful, family resort with excellent ski conditions for all abilities where you will want to come back to again and again. La Tzoumaz is immediately adjacent to Verbier and shares the same lift system. The the new 8 man ultra-fast gondola to the top of the Savoleyres slopes is 800m from the chalet. This is also where the La Tzoumaz ski school is based.

Learners can pick up the basics in the Jardin des Neiges at the bottom of the pistes, where the Swiss Snow school run classes for different ages. Even when we’re staying in different resorts, the Savoleyres area is one of our favourite parts of the Four Valleys for progression, with wide, sunny runs on the Verbier side and shaded tree runs leading into La T. We like pottering about on the Taillay blues that dip into the treeline, while sunny, cruisey Planards – Carrefour streams down towards Verbier.

Ren run skiers can really roam, from the Coeur and Saxon pistes on the local slopes to the long, thigh testing route from Col des Gentianes to La Chaux. Favourite black pistes include the FIS slope from Attelas above Verbier and Le Profs between the trees – not forgetting the Mont Fort run from the highest point in the area. But where this area really shines is its powder terrain, most of which is easy to reach from the lifts. Conquer the mogulled Wall run from Chassoure or have a helicopter drop you on Bec de Rosses for the ride of a lifetime.

The Audi Fun Park is one of the newer additions to the area, with a tunnel, jumps and banked turns.

Restaurants

La Tzoumaz Restaurants

Because of the location of this resort the landscape is breath-taking everywhere you look. This of course means the views from all the mountain restaurants are truly beautiful. Chez Simon is a great mountain hut to try for lunch with great food and fantastic views guaranteed.

Village Restaurants

Being simply a small hamlet on the outskirts of Verbier it may be better to head into Verbier itself if you are after a bit more variety in your evening meal. There is still, however, a couple of quality restaurants within walking distance of most chalets in La Tzoumaz including the quaint Les Trappeurs and Le Pistard.

Non ski activities

Sledge Run

This piste is located in the area of Savoleyres and is one of the longest sledge run in French-speaking Switzerland. Thrills are guaranteed on this run between Savoleyres and La Tzoumaz which has a drop in altitude of 711metres – thanks to hairpin bends in the middle of the forest. A thrilling ride awaits!

Ice Skating

Get your skates on and head to the Central Square in La Tzoumaz! Music and lights guarantee a magical atmosphere from morning until 20:00. If you need to rent skates, then fear not. The Monnet Sports Shop is located opposite the rink and has everything you need.

Winter Hiking

For those who like walking in the forest and taking the time to observe nature, La Tzoumaz offers many options for hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring. La Tzoumaz – Les Etablons (Chez Simon) – Savoleyres is one of our favourite snow-shoeing itineraries, which will take you to the highest point on the ski resort La Tzoumaz-Savoleyres. Here, you’ll be able to admire a magnificent panorama on the Rhône valley and the Combins mountain chain.
